FinTech giant Revolut announced it will start testing AIR, an AI agent that can shop autonomously, in the United Kingdom in December the newsletter. The rollout targets Revolut’s 80M+-customer base, giving the neobank direct control over card issuance, payment approval and the underlying banking licence—capabilities that rivals such as Meta’s Muse and xAI’s Grok Bot obtain through Stripe Link.

By keeping the entire transaction chain in-house, Revolut sits at the centre of the discussion about whose credentials an AI agent carries when it spends money, a question highlighted by recent talks of Meta’s Personal Agent Protocol.

Our read: Revolut’s strategy to own the payment stack rather than rent it signals a broader shift among retail fintechs toward end-to-end AI commerce control, potentially reshaping competitive dynamics in the AI-enabled payments arena.
